New hair and Kardashian contouring

When I went to the hairdressers on Thursday I had 3 wishes:
1. Change my fringe up
2. Get it thinned
3. The most important- go lighter and blonder!

I took some steps to going lighter back in March and got some subtle blonde put through the end of my hair. This time I did a colour b4 to get rid of my red and dark dye and came out three shades lighter.  My hairdresser matched my roots to my new light brown and added a tonne more blonde to the rest.  Loads of layers and beginning of a side fringe later and it's looking a lot more like I want it to.  Khloe Kardashian is my current hairspiration but I'm taking it slowly as I'm not sure how blonde I want it yet.

Feeling very KK inspired, I did some heavy contour for a night out on Friday.  I much prefer a liquid contour to a powder- it looks far less stripey to me.

I use Collection lasting perfection concealer in the lightest and darkest shades (Fair and Dark, I think) and blend with a buffing brush.  Since using concealer is a heavy look, I find it looks best when skipping powder and foundation.  Blush and highlight are still key though.

My blue hair

I went out to my favourite cheesy club night last night and had lots of fun, dancing about and meeting up with friends. It's a pretty much anything-goes kind of night and was the perfect opportunity to try out the Colour Xtreme coloured hair spray I was sent.

I'm desperately bored with my hair and so I thought I'd see what it would look like dip dyed.

Utterly shocked at how vivid the colour is! Spray colour has completely changed since my mum sprayed orange stripes in my hair when I dressed up as Ginger Spice once. I washed it out this morning and there isn't a trace of colour left.

There were a few downsides. It was very messy. I sprayed it all over my neck, dressing gown and hands. Luckily it washes off skin fairly easily. It also seems to stay in the air pretty well. I'm getting over a cold, blew my nose later and it's contents were also blue! This is described as a coloured hairspray, rather than a dye so it made the ends of my hair very stiff. My hands also turned blue everytime I touched it. I eventually decided to put my hair up to avoid turning smurf like later in the evening.

The stiff ends actually made putting it up very easy. It scrunched into a perfect bun and needed no pinning. I'm very, very tempted to bleach my ends and get this done properly now.

I was very impressed, as were my friends, with the pigmentation of the spray, but it definitely works better when used on an up do.

Colour Xtreme is available in 8 different shades, costs £4.07 and can be bought in Boots and on Amazon.

this spray was sent to me for review, as previously mentioned

Short hair..again

I’ve been growing my hair since the beginning of the year but I’ve grown to hate it, so tonight I went to the hair dressers and had it all chopped off again.

DSCN1064

I went for a style similar to Frankie from The Saturdays and I really like it (sorry for the bad quality photo, but I wanted a mirror pic to show you what it actually looks like)

Long one side, really short on the other

It’s so easy to do. I’m really looking forward to trying new looks with it too.  What do you think?

New hurr- Purple Rain

My hair is definitely looking longer but I just want it to groooow!

Laura came over and dyed my hair for me on Friday. My last dye was def fading and it needed a spruce.

We used L’oreal casting creme in Plum, which is a semi containing no ammonia. I wanted a really rich dark colour but with a nice sheen and I think we acheived that.

Here comes the purple!

DSCN0942

In real life it doesn’t really look like either. It’s not as flat as the first pictures and it’s not as vibrant as the flash pictures. It sits nicely between the two. It’s really nice but now I think I want more. Considering using a permanent purple-black to give it a really noticeable tone. Or going back to my red

Big Ol’ HURRR

I’ve discovered a new hairstyle- the beehive and it’s love.

I used ThePinupSweetShoppe’s YT tutorial and it worked perfectly.

Short hair up do

As much as the hair growing is dragging (and my hair grows very quickly) I’m now very excited that I can wear my hair up again.

DSCN0649

I think I’ve perfected my fringe french plait now, and it plays a big part in this ‘do.  I side part my hair, french plait my fringe in opposite directions and then slick back the rest into a high pony.  My back is then gripped up and sprayed to within an inch of it’s life.

DSCN0647

It’s quick and easy and keeps all of my hair off my face.  Perfect for the windy, rainy weather at the moment.

Any more short up styles you can share with me?

Curly halo

Bonjour!

I’m not sure if I’ve mentioned this yet, but I’m growing my hair long again. Up until the age of 19 I had lovely long hair, which I hated and chopped off. After 4 years of having short hair, I’m desperate for long flowing curls and sleek updos. Basically want this back again

*sigh*

My hair is hideous at the moment. As it’s in good condition, I don’t need to get it trimmed frequently for it grow but it’s very much a hideous non-style.

Whilst perusing Heat recently, I spent some time drooling over Nicola Roberts’ hair and decided mine was long enough to attempt her curls.

Et voila!

DSCN0659

I had to use straighteners but I love it. This is now my full time hair style until it grows more. LAAAVE it.

G saw it and even said “ooo it’s like the ginger one from Girls Aloud” So very pleased with that

DSCN0658

BOOM! The big fringe is just so glam.

I would like the curls to be fuller though, any help? Would the dreaded heated rollers or a proper curling tong do better?

Dark side of..my hair

Sorry red fans but I visited my hairdresser last week and I’m back to being a brunette- kind of!

DSCN0213

As I needed to have my red covered, I went a shade darker than my normal tone and I love it!  The red isn’t completely covered, it’s going to take a few more goes to get rid of completely but my hair now has a lovely black cherry tone.

DSCN0235

Cut wise- I left the length as I’m growing it- it’s far less extreme than it was

DSCN0238

So what do you think? Bright red or black cherry?

Hair history

I love these so I thought I’d do one of my own.

black 001

Jan/Feb 2006

I always had long hair. I experimented with a fringe and a few layers but that’s it. This is my hair at it’s longest, I’d only get the fringe cut(by my mum!) but my hair was always in really good condition. I HATED IT.

I started earning my own real money and went for the chop. I had loads of layers put through and my fringe cut from the back so I had no centre parting

I went for a one length bob. I loved this hair, I could do so much with it and it looked lovely straight or curly. As my hair’s super thick, I had the back cut into, so it was like an undercut, but my longer hair covered it.

I went for another change, and had the sides cut shorter, along with the back. I also had my undercut extended round to the side of my hair. You can see what I mean in this post. Excuse the non straightened front part- I had no working straighteners in Vegas!

I had my fringe cut at an angle, which I loved but the cut was very hit and miss.

NOW.
I have the same cut, with a short, straight fringe and it’s bright red. I’d never had my hair dyed before so it took the colour really well. I love it.

Link me to your hair history if you’ve done one.

FOTD

Yesterday I moaned about MAC Blackground paint pot looking rubbish on me, so I decided to have a look for some inspiration.  With help from Bickyyy and Nikki, I managed to make Blackground work for me today.

Ta Daaaaaaaaaaaaah

S1051339

After applying Blackground with my finger, I blended it out using a really stiff crease/pencil brush (mine was from Charles Fox) and then layered MAC All that Glitters, Woodwinked and Amber Lights over Blackground which just made it more dramatic.  I also used Sleek blush in Flamingo and MAC Peaches blush to give me really dramatic, 80’s cheeks.

Here’s a close of the eye (sorry it’s poor, my camera battery ran out)

S1051341
It was much more like the full face photo in real life.

I also did a massive quiff today and pinned the rest back into a mohican.  It’s my fav hairstyle.

S1051343

It’s not very backcombed as I’m just going to bed but you get the general idea.

So now- Blackground I’m loving you.

XOXO

New hair and top picks

Hi guys,

I've had my hair cut into a slightly different style and although I was a bit wary at first, I've decided that I love it. My hair is basically undercut, all the way round my head, very short, not shaved, pointed at my face and then the upper layers get longer round my face. I had my fringe cut at an angle this time, as below, and as I said, I now love it.

I don't really have much to talk about, I bought some things from MAC recently, which should arrive in a few days so I'll do a haul/review then. I'm just gonna go through some summer top picks for clothes and beauty.

TOP PICKS.

Bleached/acid tone jeans.
I got a really cheap pair from Primark a little while ago (I got cheap ones in case I hated them) but I looooove them. They're so sickeningly 80's. Plus I actually have found that Primark jeans fit me best out of any I've tried. BUY SOME. I'm not skinny, and they still suit me so I'd wouldn't be scared off by that.

Batiste Tropical dry shampoo
I LOOOOVE this. It's just so cheap and Tropical smells of coconuts. You simply spray it on your hair, rub it in and brush it out. It just freshens up your hair and makes it smell gorgeous. I have to be careful as my hair is dark, and it can leave a white/grey tinge to your hair. I find it's ok if I don't use too much and brush it out really well.

http://www.boots.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10052&productId=28848&callingViewName=&langId=-1&catalogId=11051
That's the link for Boots. I actually got mine in Morrisons and it was cheaper there

Revlon Colourstay Makeup with soft flex
This is quite literally the best foundation I have found for my skin and it's not too expensive. i originally picked up some in Walgreens in Vegas as I ran out of Benefit foundation there and I haven't looked back. I get the oily/combination skin type and it just seems to last all day, without transfering off (My phone's touch screen used to be filthy with foundation!)
I'm on my third bottle since November.

Summer clothes.
I like to keep my off season clothes under my bed in a vacuum pack so I have more room in my wardrobe for current season and I think it's time to make the switch over. I cannot WAIT to wear my maxi dress again. It's multi-coloured crazy print and gorgeous. I've also completely forgotten what else is in it, so it's a bit like getting a new wardrobe!

NEONS
This summer I am loving neon coloured things. Since my hair is so dark I can get away with all bright colours. I have a fantastic neon yellow dress that I'm going to wear out in a few weeks so I may blog about styling it up.

I think that's enough for now, as I said, I'm gonna do a MAC haul after it arrives this week and I think I will do the neon styling post as it can be quite hard to wear.

The newest edition of Rant should be out now, so if you live in Portsmouth, pop into the library, pick up a copy and read my article.
